These big companies pour lots of money into marketing backed by big studies. So that commercial is targeted. This is piggybacking on Mr. Beast's Instagram post, where he and a couple of friends try craft chocolate bars and compare them to his Feastables. Craft chocolate responds the same way each time because craft chocolate does not have a cohesive community with set standards. They get angry, hurl complaints, and fail to see what's behind these campaigns.
I agree, Sophia, and thank you for sharing your thoughts. It’s a long overdue, complex question, with your statement “craft does not have a cohesive community with set standards” at the heart of it. But from being asked to work on an industry definitions project, I can say it will need to be a conversation taken up by small batch makers if it’s going to be relevant, and helpful, to “craft.”
Mackenzie, your words about potential really landed with me. The way you framed it as our job to “blow people’s minds” instead of just replicating chocolate is what I strive for, to craft something that hasn’t been thought about before, not just another tired almond studded bar.
It’s easy to get lost in the noise of percentages and origins, but at the heart we’re here to spark delight and create something crave-worthy, something worth telling friends about.
Thank you for naming what so often gets obscured by the jargon, that our authentic contribution is what sets us apart. That line about not losing ourselves, I’m carrying that forward.

Awww, Mackenzie, thank you for sharing this. Thinking of the quote “Dance like no one is watching…” The work for me is to craft cacao like no one is. Bessos y Abrazos Hermana
